Are you using a personal profile to promote in FB? Get people to click on Subscribe instead of "Add a friend". Encourage people to do so. For instance. "Click Subscribe to get your latest news and free ebook offers etc."
Facebook Personal profiles have a 5000 person limit but there are no apparent limits to subscribes. The next effect is the same: they will still see your updates on their wall. This is still what you want to happen.
This new development (15 Sept 2011 ) kinda competes with the LIKES on Facebook Pages - and drives people to keep using the Personal Facebook Profiles even if they've exceeded the 5000 friend limit.
Formal lesson coming up as this is developing. We're not sure yet if this is a bad or good move for us. For the meantime, use a facebook page when you can.
